Gayla Royer, MD, is a board-certified general and colorectal surgeon with over 20 years of clinical experience. She provides comprehensive medical care at Alabama Anesthesiology & Pain Consultants with a focus on colorectal surgery, primary care, urgent care, and hormone replacement therapy.
Dr. Royer earned her Doctor of Medicine from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, in 1999 after graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She completed her general surgery residency at the Medical Center of Central Georgia and went on to pursue fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Royer began her career in private practice, serving as a colorectal surgeon with Gainesville Surgical Associates in Georgia and later as a partner at Alabama Colon and Rectal Institute in Birmingham. She built a strong reputation for delivering skilled surgical care with a patient-centered approach, performing a broad range of procedures including laparoscopic and open abdominal surgeries, anorectal procedures, and colonoscopies.
In 2020, Dr. Royer joined Southern Wellness, where she broadened her scope of practice to include primary care and preventive medicine, with special interest in aesthetics and hormone optimization. Her extensive surgical background gives her a unique perspective in evaluating and treating complex conditions, and she remains dedicated to offering thoughtful, individualized care that reflects both clinical expertise and compassion.
Dr. Royer is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. She holds active licensure as a medical doctor and DEA-certified provider.
